Cheryl Ish enters her 14th year as King's head field hockey coach and is in her third year as the college's director of intercollegiate athletics.

Ish took over King's program in 1994, two years after the program was introduced as a varsity sport at the college and a year after gaining Middle Atlantic Conference status. After suffering through the normal growing pains associated with building a brand new program, Ish has turned King's into a perennial conference contender. During this time, Ish has posted a 131-114-2 mark and was named Freedom Conference "Coach of the Year" in 1996 and 2005. She has also led King's to at least 10 victories every season since 1999.

In 2006, Ish led King's to its finest season ever as the Lady Monarchs finished the year with a school-record 19-4 mark, the Freedom Conference championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

She had previously guided the team to Freedom Conference title games in 2003 and 2005 where the squad fell both times in double-overtime losses.  The 2005 squad concluded the season with a 15-5 mark and was ranked 20th in the final NFHCA national rankings.

During her time at King's, Ish has coached 54 players who have earned MAC Freedom Conference all-star status and five National Field Hockey Coaches Association Regional All-Americans. Her teams have also been known for their academic excellence as 88 of her players have been named to the MAC All-Academic Team

Ish was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American during her playing career at Salisbury State University where she guided the team to four consecutive national tournament appearances. In 1988, she led Salisbury to a 16-3-3 record and a third-place in the national tournament, while advancing to the quarterfinal round in each of her final three seasons.

Ish, who was named most valuable player of the Eastern States Athletic Conference in 1989, concluded her collegiate career ranked second among Salisbury's all-time leaders in both goals scored (60) and total points (131). Ish also stands second with five goals scored in a single game. She was additionally honored as a Hanes NCAA "Woman of the Year" nominee in 1992.

An outstanding all-around athlete, Ish was also a four-year letter winner in both track and field and lacrosse. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Salisbury in 1992. Ish came to King's following two years at Smith College where she earned her master's degree in exercise and sports studies, while serving as an assistant coach. In 1993, she helped Smith to a 15-3 record and a second-place finish in the NCAA Division III national tournament.

A native of Hamburg, NJ, Ish is a graduate of Walkill Valley High School, where she earned New Jersey Group 2 All-State field hockey honors as a senior.

Assistant Coach
Martha Kerrick

In her seventh season as an assistant coach at King's, Martha Kerrick adds a wealth of experience to the Monarch program.

Kerrick came to King's in 2001 after serving as head coach at Moravian College for two seasons and enjoyed two coaching stints at the school, one as head coach and one as an assistant. Her first stay at Moravian was from 1988 to 1994 as assistant field hockey coach. She also served as assistant coordinator of intramurals and director of the Athletic and Recreation Center from 1992 to 1995.

Prior to her becoming head coach at Moravian, Kerrick served as head field hockey coach at Marywood University for four seasons.  Her squads posted a 41-33 record over that time, compiling a .554 winning percentage. Kerrick became the winningest coach in Marywood history and led her team to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championship in 1998 and runner-up finishes in 1995 and 1996.  Kerrick's 1998 team posted a 15-5 record and was ranked as high as seventh in the region during the season. While at Marywood, Kerrick also served as assistant softball coach in 1998 and 1999.

Kerrick is a 1987 graduate of Earlham College in Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She completed her Master's degree in Education at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1991.

Assistant Coach
Jess Ametrano

Entering her third season as an assistant coach is former King's standout Jess Ametrano.

Ametrano is a former four-year starter at King's where she played primarily in the midfield from 1997 to 2000.  She played a big part in the transition of a youthful program which began in 1994 to the successful program which begins today.

In her first two years at King's, the Monarchs went 4-16 and 9-11, then improved to a then school-record 13-5 record in 1999 followed by a 12-7 mark as a senior in 2000.  She was an All-Freedom Conference selection in 2000 while twice earning MAC All-Academic honors during her career.

Ametrano helped start a winning tradition at King's in which the program has won at least 10 games each season since her junior year in 1999.

After graduating from King's in 2001, Ametrano became a teacher in the Pocono Mountain School District where she was appointed head field hockey coach of a brand new program. She remained as head coach until joining the King's staff in 2005. She is now a teacher at Crestwood High School.
