WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College
Field Hockey Camp will be held this summer at the college's Robert L.
Betzler Fields athletic complex in Wilkes-Barre Township.
The
camp, which will be directed by King's head field hockey coach Cheryl
Ish, will be conducted July 14-18 2008.
The camp, which is open to players
eight years old and up until a current high school senior (Class of
2008), will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each day. Cost of the
camp is $90 for the week and includes a tee shirt and team photo.
Campers will be instructed in ball handling, attack moves and dodges,
one-on-one defense, team defense and circle play. Goalie instruction
will also take place and all goalies are asked to bring their own
equipment.
Passing, positioning, and support play will also be taught while game-like
drills and scrimmages will take place daily. Campers will
be evaluated and grouped according to skill level and age. Players
can expect a small player-to-coach ratio.
Coach Ish has been the head coach at King's for the past 14 seasons
and has coached a number of MAC Freedom Conference all-stars and Regional
all-American players. She is a two-time MAC Freedom Conference
"Coach of the Year". Most recently, she led King's to the
2006 and 2007 Freedom Conference championships, as well as runner-up
conference finishes in both 2003 and 2005. Her 2005 team
finished the season ranked 20th nationally and her 2006 and 2007 squads
qualified for the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
As a player, she was a three-time NCAA Division III all-American at
perennial national power Salisbury University. She will be joined
on the camp staff by local coaches as well as a number of current
and former college players. A certified athletic trainer will
also be on hand each day.
