KING'S CHRISTINA GLENN NAMED TO NFHCA SECOND-TEAM
SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION
WILKES-BARRE
-- King's College field hockey standout Christina Glenn
(Mountaintop/Crestwood) has been named to the National Field Hockey
Coaches Association All-South Atlantic Regional Team as a second-team
selection.
A junior midfielder, Glenn helped lead King's to a 15-5 record,
back-to-back Freedom Conference championships, and a second straight
berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Glenn also becomes
the seventh Lady Monarch field hockey player to earn a spot on the
all-regional team.
Glenn was a key figure for King's where she
excelled in the midfield with her stick work, ball-striking, and ability
to ignite King's transition offense. She also was important on the
defensive side of the field with her knack for clearing the ball from
within the circle and driving the ball downfield out of harms way. She
also contributed nine points on one goal with seven assists and proved
to be a force on penalty corners as well as clearing balls from King's
territory with her powerful stroke. She is a two-time All-Freedom
choice, garnering first-team laurels in 2007 along with second-team
honors a year ago.
In her three years with the
program, Glenn has helped King's to a combined 49-13 record, a pair of
Freedom Conference championships in 2006 and 2007, and a second-place
Freedom Conference finish in 2005. She also helped the Lady Monarchs
reached the Division III national tournament in 2006 and 2007. In her
three years at King's she has totaled 35 points on eight goals and 19
assists.
"Christina is one of the hardest working
individuals on the team and is the type of player who comes to practice
every day looking to get better," King's coach Cheryl Ish stated.
"Coming from a storied program at Crestwood High School where she was
kind of lost in the shuffle behind a team loaded with Division I
players, she came to King's unheralded and has truly evolved as a
player. She has been a key component to our success the last three years
and I am very proud of her for how hard she works and for the quality
person that she is."
