KING'S FIELD HOCKEY
HEADED TO SPRINGFIELD (MA) FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- After capturing its second straight Freedom Conference
Tournament title on Saturday, the King's College field hockey team
learned its NCAA Tournament Division III National Tournament destination
on Monday.
King's will venture to Springfield, Massachusetts to face Springfield
College Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Stagg Field. It will mark the first
time the two teams will face one another. King's and Springfield are
part of a 24-team field in the Division III Tournament.
King's advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year by
virtue of a 2-0 home field victory over FDU-Florham in the Freedom
Conference title game Saturday in Wilkes-Barre. The win was King's
third straight and the lady Monarchs 10th triumph in their last 11
games.
Springfield, ranked 14th nationally by the
National Field Hockey Coaches Association, is 19-3 after defeating
Wellesley College 3-0 for the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic
Conference championship on Sunday.
With the win Springfield earned an automatic bid
to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the straight year.
