KING'S FIELD HOCKEY HEADED TO SPRINGFIELD (MA) FOR NCAA TOURNAMENT OPENER

WILKES-BARRE -- After capturing its second straight Freedom Conference Tournament title on Saturday, the King's College field hockey team learned its NCAA Tournament Division III National Tournament destination on Monday.

King's will venture to Springfield, Massachusetts to face Springfield College Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Stagg Field. It will mark the first time the two teams will face one another. King's and Springfield are part of a 24-team field in the Division III Tournament.

King's advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year by virtue of a 2-0 home field victory over FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference title game Saturday in Wilkes-Barre.  The win was King's third straight and the lady Monarchs 10th triumph in their last 11 games.

Springfield, ranked 14th nationally by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, is 19-3 after defeating Wellesley College 3-0 for the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference championship on Sunday.

With the win Springfield earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the straight year.
