KING'S FIELD HOCKEY CLINCHES TOP SEED FOR
PLAYOFFS WITH 1-0 WIN OVER FDU
WILKES-BARRE -- Freshman
Candace Russ (left) scored the lone goal of the game
with 21:55 remaining in the second half as the host King's College field
hockey team defeated FDU-Florham Sunday at Betzler Fields in a battle of
the two lone remaining unbeaten teams in the Freedom Conference.
With the victory, King's improved to 13-4 overall and 6-0 in the Freedom
Conference. The win also allowed the Lady Monarchs to clinch home field
advantage throughout next week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
FDU, meanwhile, slipped to 13-5 and 5-1 in league play while being
relegated to the second seed.
After a scoreless first half, King's would push across the game winner
on a two-on-one break when freshman Danielle Terracciano (right)delivered a
crossing pass to Russ, whose shot scooted by Devil keeper Jamie SanFillipo and nestled just inside the right post for the only score of
the day.
King's outshot FDU 15-5 and held a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Kari Leach made five saves for King's while SanFillipo tallied 12 stops.
King's will host fourth-seeded DeSales University in the first round of
the Freedom Conference Tournament Wednesday at a time to be announced.
