KING'S FIELD HOCKEY
DOWNS DESALES 1-0 IN OT ON WYCHOCK WINNER
CENTER VALLEY -- Senior forward Debbie Wychock broke up a scoreless
contest with the game winner in overtime as the King's College field
hockey team posted an important 1-0 Freedom Conference victory over
DeSales University Monday in Center Valley.
With the win, King's improved to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in conference
play. DeSales, meanwhile, fell to 6-9 and 1-1 in league games.
After 70 scoreless minutes of regulation play, Wychock would end the
extra session quickly when she dribbled down the right sideline and
out-maneuvered a DeSales defender with a move to goal. The Lady Monarch
standout then beat Bulldog keeper Molly Pope just 1:50 into overtime
with the winning score.
DeSales outshot King's 15-14 but had few scoring chances as Lady Monarch
goalie Kari Leach only had to make three saves. Pope had eight
stops for the Bulldogs. Each team had nine penalty corners.
King's returns to action Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs host
cross-town rival Wilkes University at 4:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields.
