FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO ETOWN 2-1 IN OT
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Liz DeMatteis scored the
game-winner in the first overtime period as host Elizabethtown College
posted a 2-1 victory over King's College in a noon-conference matchup
Wednesday in Elizabethtown. With the win, Elizabethtown improved to 7-3
while King's fell to 5-3 with its third straight loss at the hands of a
2006 NCAA national tournament qualifier.
Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead at 20:00 of the first half when Alison
Duval scored off an assist from Megan Angst following a penalty corner.
King's tied the score just 1:12 into the second half when Megan Farrell
struck net off pass from Grace King. The teams would enter overtime when
DeMatteis knocked in a loose ball in front of the Lady Monarch goal to
end the contest.
Elizabethtown outshot King's 19-6 while holding a 16-3 advantage in
penalty corners. King's goalie Kari Leach made 12 saves while Blue Jay
keeper Liz Hannegan posted four stops.
King's will be idle until October 4 when the Lady Monarchs travel to
face Neumann College in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
