KING'S FIELD HOCKEY OPENS SEASON
WITH 2-1 WIN OVER RAMAPO
WILKES-BARRE -- The host King's College
field hockey team built a 2-0 lead, then held off a late Ramapo
College rally to post a 2-1 victory in its 2007 season opener Friday
at Betzler Fields.
King's opened the scoring just 2:21 into the contest when Sarah
McGrady struck net off an assist from Meghan Farrell. The Lady
Monarchs would stretch the advantage to 2-0 at 29:41 of the second
half when Debbie Wychock scored unassisted.
Ramapo would look to rally when Ashley Zimmerman got the Roadrunners
on the board with an unassisted goal with 5:15 remaining. Ramapo,
however, was unable to capitalize on four penalty corners over the
game's final three minutes as King's would preserve the victory.
Ramapo held an 8-7 lead in shots while also posting a 13-3 advantage
in penalty corners.
King's goalie Kari Leach made seven saves while Ramapo keeper Diana
Silva made six stops.
The Lady Monarchs return to action
Monday in Pomona, NJ with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Richard Stockton
College.
