KING'S LINDSAY SABO NAMED MAC
FIELD HOCKEY "SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR"
WILKES-BARRE
-- King's College standout student-athlete Lindsay Sabo
(Milford/Delaware Valley) has added yet another awarded to her
already growing list of accomplishments on and off the field. Sabo has
been named the Middle Atlantic Conferences Field Hockey "Scholar-Athlete
of the Year", the MAC Office announced Tuesday. The award is based on
academic and athletic success as well as community service activities.
A senior forward, Sabo led King's to a school-record 19-4 record and the
field hockey program's first-ever Freedom Conference championship and
NCAA Division III National Tournament berth. Off the field, however,
Sabo proved herself to be an outstanding student and community servant.
Academically, she holds a 3.98 overall grade-point average as an
Elementary Education major and has been named to King's Dean's List all
seven semesters.

She is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi
National Education Honor Society; the Delta Epsilon Sigma National
Honors Society; and the King's College Aquinas Honor Society. Sabo is a
certified CRLA Level II Peer Tutor who is a five-time MAC All-Academic
selection in both field hockey and lacrosse. She was named King's 2006
field hockey Scholar-Athlete Award winner and was named to the 2004 and
2005 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Squad. Sabo
was additionally honored as a 2006 ESPN the Magazine National
Academic All-American Third-Team selection and is a two-time ESPN the
Magazine District II All-Academic selection (2005 and 2006).
Sabo has also been active on campus and in the community. She serves as
King's Class of 2007 Student Government Secretary and is King's
Education Club Vice President. She has served as a Lil' Leo's Volunteer
(Big Brothers/Big Sisters); a CEO Volunteer; and was a King's Relay for
Life participant. She has been a volunteer for King's Hunger for Justice
Week along with King's "Campus' That Care" Week. A two-year resident
assistant, she was also named King's 2006 Homecoming Queen.
In field hockey, Sabo was second in 2006 Freedom Conference scoring with
59 points on 25 goals and nine assists. She was the 2005 and 2006
Freedom Conference Field Hockey "Player of the Year", while also being a
three-time All-Freedom Conference selection and a two-time National
Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Regional choice.
Sabo ranked 10th nationally in Division III in goals per-game (1.09)
and 11th in total points per-game (2.57). She will graduate as King's
all-time career leader in points (157), goals scored (61), and assists
(35). She is also King's single-season record holder in goals scored
(25) and assists (11), while standing second in single-season total
points (59).
Sabo is the Lady Monarchs' single-game record-holder in total points
(12), goals (5), and assists (4) while also ranking first with six games
scoring three or more goals. In her four-year career at King's, she led
the Lady Monarchs to three trips to the Freedom Conference championship
game.
In lacrosse, Sabo is an MAC all-star performer and is already the
program's all-time leading scorer with the spring season still to be
played.
"We are very proud Lindsay has been recognized as the top field hockey
scholar-athlete in the MAC as she is very deserving of the honor with
all she has done in her career as a student-athlete," said Cheryl Ish,
King's field hockey coach and director of intercollegiate athletics and
recreation. "It is very difficult to describe the impact she has had on
King's College, but it would be fair to say she is among the finest
all-around student-athletes we have ever had. She has been a pleasure to
coach and a true joy to be around. Lindsay is one of those rare
individuals who is totally self-motivated and aspires to be the best she
can be at everything she takes on. To accomplish everything she has as a
two-sport athlete, yet be as involved as she is off the field, truly
shows how special she really is. Lindsay is without a doubt the
prototype student-athlete and a role model for all student-athletes at
King's."
