KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO THIRD-RANKED MESSIAH, 4-1

GRANTHAM -- Nikki Bailey scored two goals while Tiffany Leatherman added one goal and two assists to lead third-ranked host Messiah to a 4-1 victory over 17th ranked King's College in a battle of nationally-ranked field hockey squads Saturday on the Falcons' Homecoming Day in Grantham.

Messiah, the 2005 NCAA Division III national runner-up, improved to 13-2 with the win while King's slipped to 14-3.

Lindsay Hunter scored the only goal of the first half just 2:49 into the contest off an assist from Leatherman. The Falcons would push the score to 2-0 with 22:03 remaining in the contest when Bailey scored on a pass from Emily Sauder. King's would cut the lead to 2-1 with 12:12 left when Ave' Moran scored an unassisted goal.

Messiah however would put the game away when Leatherman struck net with 6:42 left and Bailey followed with her second score with just 1:47 on the clock to seal the victory.

King's struggled offensively on Messiah's artificial turf field as the Falcons held a 27-5 advantage in shots while holding 17-2 lead in penalty corners.

The Lady Monarchs return to action Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when King's faces local rival University of Scranton on Fitzpatrick Field.
