SABO NAMED TRI-MVP AS KING'S FIELD HOCKEY PLACES FIVE PLAYERS ON ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE TEAM

(Ish Named Coach of the Year)

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College junior forward Lindsay Sabo highlighted five King's College All-Freedom Conference selections by being honored as the "Tri-Player of the Year", the Middle Atlantic Conference Office announce Thursday.

Sabo was one of four first-team selections for King's while the Lady Monarchs, who are 14-3 and will play for the Freedom Conference title on Saturday, also had one player named to the second team.

Joining Sabo on the first team were senior forward Amanda Jez, senior defender Jen Gimble, and freshman goalie Kari Leach. Sophomore defender Melissa Gates was a second-team selection.

Sabo stands as the leading scorer in the Freedom Conference with 34 points on 12 goals and 10 assists from her right wing position. Sabo, who was a second-team choice a year ago. Has totaled 95 points in her three years as a starter, scoring 35 goals with 25 assists.

Sabo shared the award with Scranton senior defender Kristin Thomas and FDU-Florham senior forward Kate Springmeyer.

Jez earned her three straight berth on the all-conference team and her second as a first-team selection. Jez has tallied 15 points on four goals and seven assists and has totaled 51 career points on 15 goals and 21 assists.

Gimble also earned her third straight first-team berth and has six points on two goals and two assists this season. She has nine career points on two goals and five assists from her defender position.

Gates started all 17 games in her first year as a regular player and teamed with Gimble to help King's defense hold opponents to just 19 goals all season and just eight shots per-game.

Leach posted a 1.38 goals per-game average for the lady Monarchs as a rookie while making 71 saves and registering five shutouts.


head_ish.jpg (9329 bytes)Ish guided King's to a school-record 14 wins and the program's second trip to the Freedom Conference championship game in the last three years. She received coach of the year honors in 1996. Ish has led the Lady Monarchs to at least 10 victories each season since 1999.

King's will host Manhattanville in the Freedom Conference championship game Saturday at 12:00 noon at Betzler Fields,

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2.00 for students. Childrem age six and under are free. King's students may enter for free with student I.D.
