KING'S FIELD HOCKEY SQUAD HONORED BY NFHCA FOR
ACADEMICS
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team
has been recognized for its outstanding work in the classroom by being
ranked among the top academic programs in Division III by the National
Field Hockey Coaches Association.
A total of 15 King's players were named to the NFHCA
Division III National Academic Squad. To be selected, players must post a
grade-point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
With its 15-player total, King's ranked third
nationally in Division III for the most players selected. Amherst College
had 18 players chosen, while St. Mary's (Md.) and Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute both had 16. Muhlenberg also had 15 players chose to finish in a
third-place tie with King's.
Players selected for King's include Sara Alesso,
Shelly Baron, Tara Burdette, Kristen Buchko, Melissa Gates, Jen Gimble,
Amanda Jez, Grace King, Sarah McGrady, Denise Penrose, Sara Rizzo, Leah
Rogan, Lindsay Sabo, Suzanne Thompson, and Kaitin Wilcox.
"We are very excited and happy for the success
our players have had on the field but we are especially gratified to see
how much they have achieved in the classroom," King's coach Cheryl
Ish stated. "Our players know the value of hard work and it is
rewarding to see them recognized for their efforts. They are
proof-positive of what student-athletes can accomplish with hard work and
dedication."
