CABRINI WOMEN OVERTAKE KING'S 54-50
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Cabrini College overcame
a four-point half-time deficit with an early second-half run as the
Cavaliers posted a 54-50 win over King's College ion non-conference
women's basketball action Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, Cabrini improved to 5-2 while King's ended the first
semester with a 5-5 mark.
Both team struggled offensively in the first half as King's managed a
6-0 lead on a Jenna Palumbo basket with 15:47 left in opening stanza.
Cabrini did not score for the first 8:08 of the first half until a
Brittany McLeod bucket ended the drought with 11:52 on the clock. Both
continued to miss shots as King's took an 18-14 lead into the break.
Cabrini, however, would come out of the locker room and immediately went
on an 18-6 run, building a 32-24 lead with 13:13 let in a three-pointer
by Deana DiAmico. King's would draw no closer than three points the rest
of the way.
King's shot just 33.3 (22-66) percent for the game while Cabrini made
just 27.1 (16-59) percent from the floor. The Cavaliers, however, made
up the difference at the foul line, making 16-of-24 free throws,
compared to 4-of-6 for King's.
DiAmico led all scorers with 15 points while adding six rebounds and
five assists. Brittany McLeod added 14 points and six boards while Kate
Ryan followed with seven points and six rebounds. Casey Kyler pulled
down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
Andrea Hochstuhl led King's with 13 points and seven rebounds but played
just nine minutes of the second half due to an injury. Kaitlyn Fiorino
came off the bench to net nine points while Jenna Palumbo added seven
points and three steals. Sarah Darling posted a team-high 10 rebounds
for King's.
King's will be idle until the Lady Monarch Invitational Tournament
January 5-6.
