PALUMBO, HOCHSTUHL NET 20 EACH AS KING'S DOWNS WIDENER

CHESTER -- Junior guard Jenna Palumbo of Hazleton Area and junior center Andrea Hochstuhl netted 20 points each to power the King's College women's basketball team to a 71-57 non-conference victory over host Widener University Tuesday in Chester.

With the win, King's improved to 5-3 on the year while snapping a three-game losing streak. Widener, meanwhile, slipped to 3-4.

Palumbo netted 11 first-half points while sophomore guard Kaitlyn Fiorino added eight as King's trailed 32-31 at the break. The Lady Monarchs would start the second stanza with a 5-0 spurt to take a 37-32 lead with 16:51 remaining on a short jumper by Hochstuhl. After Widener cut the lead to 39-38 on a bucket by Kelley Guarrera with 15:22 left, the Lady Monarchs would go on a 10-0 run. Baskets by Sarah Darling, Casey Heitman and Hochstuhl, followed by a traditional three-point play from Fiorino gave the Lady Monarchs a 49-39 advantage with 9:52 on the clock.

Widener would chip away and cut the lead to 54-46 on a basket by Tasha Camy with 6:23 left. But Palumbo canned a pair of three-pointers while Hochstuhl added two more baskets down low to ignite an 11-1 King's run as the Lady Monarchs built a 65-47 lead with 3:20 remaining.

Hochstuhl, who added 13 rebounds and four assists in the game, netted 13 second half points to lead the Lady Monarchs second half assault. King's outscored Widener 40-25 over the final 20 minutes of play to improve its road record to 4-1 on the year. Palumbo made 5-of-13 three-pointers and contributed two assists and three steals. Fiorino, who finished with 14 points, added a trio of three-pointers for King's. Casey Heitman tallied six points and five rebounds while Lauren Kendra chipped in with four points, six assists, four rebounds, and four steals.

Widener was led by Guarrera with 20 points and six rebounds while Beth Mager Dessart and Megan Sipple followed with 12 and 10 points respectively.

King's will return to action on Thursday when the lady Monarchs travel to Aston to face Neumann College at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs will then close out the first semester of play on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Cabrini College in Scandlon Gym.
