DESALES WOMEN USE BIG SECOND HALF TO DOWN KING'S, 69-53

CENTER VALLEY - The host DeSales University women's basketball team overcame a four-point half-time deficit by outscoring King's College 43-23 over the game's final 20 minutes as the Bulldogs posted a 69-53 Freedom Conference victory Saturday in Center Valley.

With the win, DeSales improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. King's, which lost its third straight game, slipped to 4-3 and 0-2 in league action.

King's used nine first-half points each from Jenna Palumbo and Andrea Hochstuhl to build a 30-26 lead at the break. Palumbo would then score the first points of the second half to give the Lady Monarchs a 32-26 lead. After a bucket by Brittany Atzert gave King's a 39-33 advantage with 15:43 remaining, DeSales would counter with a 8-0 run to assume a 41-39 lead on a traditional three-point play by Kirby Lutz with 13:40 on the clock.

After Palumbo gave King's a 46-44 lead with 11:03 left on a three-pointer play of her own, the Lady Monarchs would go cold as DeSales outscored King's 25-7 the rest of the way.

Palumbo led King's with 19 points, including four three-pointers, before fouling out with 1:09 remaining while Hochstuhl added 11 points and nine boards before she too fouled out with 5:51 left in the contest. Kaitlyn Fiorino added seven points while Lauren Kendra contributed in with six points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Kaitlyn Malshefski chipped in with six points and three boards.

Kirby Lutz paced the Bulldogs with 20 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Kuperavage netted 14 points, making 10-of-13 shots from the foul line. LeighAnn Burke and Kim Rarick added 13 points each.

King's committed 22 turnovers compared to just eight for DeSales.
