KING'S WOMEN UPSETS STOCKTON TO REACH MARYMOUNT

ARLINGTON, VA -- Jenna Palumbo scored 16 points and
Kaitlyn Fiorino added 13 points and the King's College women's
basketball team upset a 2006 NCAA Division III National Tournament
qualifier for the second straight night with a 46-39 victory over
Richard Stockton University in the second round of the Marymount Tip-Off
Classic in Arlington, Va.
With the win, King's advances to the championship game of the
eight-team, three-day event against the winner of the other semi-final
pairing between Mt. St. Mary's and host Marymount.
King's would build a 25-17 lead at the break on the strength of eight
first-half points from Palumbo and seven each by Fiorino and Andrea
Hochstuhl.
Fiorino would hit a three-pointer on King's first possession of the
second half to give the Lady Monarchs a 28-17 lead. After a Stockton
turnover, Sarah Darling converted on a pair of foul shots as King's
posted its biggest lead of the game by pushing the score to 30-17.
Stockton would chip away with a 12-2 surge and closed to within 34-29 on
a bucket by Alicia Morris with 8:52 left in the contest. Fiorino would
hit another three-pointer to give the Lady Monarchs a 37-29 advantage,
but Jen Russell made consecutive baskets to bring the Ospreys to within
four points at 37-33 with 6:49 on the clock.
After Palumbo drained a three-pointer, Kaitlyn
Malshefski made one-of-two fouls shots as King's extended the lead to
41-33 with 4:28 left. Morris would score for Stockton, but Palumbo
canned another three-pointer to give KIng's a 44-35 advantage with 3:00
remaining.
Morris would connect on a jumper and Russell made the first of two foul
shots to bring the Ospreys within 44-38 with 1:39 on the clock. After
the teams traded misses, Palumbo was then fouled with 0:12 left and put
the game away by making both charity tosses.
Palumbo was 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range for
the lady Monarchs. Fiorino also canned four three-pointers while adding
six rebounds and three assists. Hochstuhl tallied seven points, all in
the first half, but contributed eight rebounds. Lauren Kendra
scored just one point but pulled down 1 game-high 10 rebounds with four
assists.
