HOCHSTUHL POSTS 16TH DOUBLE-DOUBLE, KENDRA SETS ASSIST MARK AS KING'S WOMEN WIN ECAC OPENER, 64-50

STEVENSON, MD -- Junior center Andrea Hochstuhl (left) registered her 16th double-double of the season and Lauren Kendra (below) broke the single-season assist record as the King's College women's basketball team to a 64-50 victory over host Villa Julie College in the opening round of the ECAC Southern Region Championships Wednesday in Stevenson, MD.

With the win, King's improved to 20-8 on the year while Villa Julie ended its season at 19-10.

The Lady Monarchs built a 29-15 lead thanks to 12 points from Hochstuhl and five each from Kaitlyn Fiorino and Casey Heitman. The Lady Monarchs continued to stretch the lead in the second half when a four straight points by Kaitlyn Malshefski and a three-pointer by Fiorino gave King's its biggest lead of the game at 36-15 with 18:20 left in the contest.

The lady Monarchs would maintain a healthy double-digit lead and until Villa Julie cut the margin to 49-39 with 7:40 remaining on a pair of foul shots from Cara Hill. King's, however, would put the game away with a 12-5 surge and stretched the lead back to 61-43 with 2:20 left following a three-pointer from Jenna Palumbo and a bucket down low by Hochstuhl.

Hochstuhl finished with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting and hauled down 11 rebounds to reach double-figures in points and rebounds for the 16th time this season. She also posted seven blocked shots in the game. Kendra added nine points and nine assists and set King's new single-season assist mark of 170 assists, surpassing the previous mark of 161 set by Elaine Colyer in 1996-97. Fiorino and Palumbo netted eight points each.

The Lady Monarchs shot 45.8 (27-59) percent from the floor and forced 23 Villa Julie turnovers.

The Mustangs were led by Tanisha Foster with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Hill finished with 14 points and 10 boards.

King's advances to the semi-finals where it will play fourth-seeded Washington & Jefferson College at a time to be determined at Albright College in Reading. Washington & Jefferson defeated fifth-seeded Cabrini 69-57 in another first-round pairing on Wednesday.

In the other half of the bracket, third-seeded Albright downed sixth-seeded Neumann 98-73 while seventh-seeded Moravian upended second-seeded Penn State Behrend 72-56.
