KING'S WOMEN AWARDED TOP SEED IN ECAC SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team has been awarded the top seed at this week's Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

The eight-team event will tip off Wednesday with first-round competition and will resume Friday with semi-final action. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday.

Despite being awarded the top-seed, King's will be unable to host its first-round game due to preparation for the Thursday's NCAA national tournament home men's game against Widener. With the Lady Monarchs unable to host, King's will travel to face eighth-seeded Villa Julie (19-9) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Stevenson, MD.

Other first-round games on Wednesday include second-seeded Penn State Behrend (21-5) hosting seventh-seeded Moravian (16-11; third-seeded Albright (17-9) hosting sixth-seeded Neumann (18-9); and fourth-seeded Washington & Jefferson (19-8) hosting fifth-seeded Cabrini (19-8).

With King's not applying for host status, should the Lady Monarchs win its first-round game, the team would again travel to a site to be determined for the semi-finals and finals, should they advance. PSU-Behrend would host the semi-finals and finals should it register a first-round victory. With Cabrini and Neumann also unable to host the semi-finals and finals, they would then be hosted by either Albright, Washington & Jefferson, or Moravian.

King's earned the top-seed after finishing second in the Freedom Conference Tournament. The Lady Monarchs played two of the teams in the field during the first semester, dropping games to both Neumann and Cabrini. But King's finished the season strong, winning 14 of its last 17 games, with two loses coming to national power Scranton. Cabrini went on to finish second in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament while Neumann fell in the PAC semi-finals to eventual champion Gwynedd-Mercy.
