KING'S FALLS TO
DREW 67-49 AFTER FIRST-HALF SHOOTING WOES
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team
scored just 16 points after making just 24.1 (7-29) percent from the
field and would never recover as the Lady Monarchs were upset 67-49 by
Drew University Saturday in Madison, NJ.
With the loss, King's slipped to 16-7 overall and 8-4 in the Freedom
Conference and fell back into a second-place tie with DeSales University
in the Freedom Conference standings. Drew, meanwhile, kept its
playoff hopes alive, improving to 11-12 and 6-6 in league games.
Drew, which also struggled offensively in the first half, held a 12-9
lead with 11:36 remaining. but outscored King's 12-7 over the remainder
of the opening stanza to take a 24-16 lead at the break.
The Lady Monarchs would make little headway in the second half as Drew
built tot lead to 17 points on three occasions. King's would cut
the lead to 12 points at 56-44 with 3"47 left but would craw no closer.
Courtney Cunningham topped Drew with 29 points while Melissa Kraft added
16 for the Rangers.
King's was led by Jenna Palumbo with 16 points
while Kaitlyn Fiorino added 11 as the only Lady Monarch players to reach
double-figures.
The Lady Monarchs finished the game making just 32.1 (17-53) percent
from the floor and committed 17 turnovers compared to just six for the
Rangers.
King's returns to action Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. when the Lady Monarchs
visit cross-town rival Wilkes at 6:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
