LADY MONARCH DEFEAT DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE -- Junior center Andrea Hochstuhl scored 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to power the King's College women's basketball team to its fifth straight victory as the Lady Monarch earned a 75-57 victory over Delaware Valley College.

With the win, King's improved to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in Freedom Conference play.  Delaware Valley slipped to 6-7 and 2-2 in league games.

Both teams struggled for the first portion of the second half as the gamed was tied 14-14 with 6:43 left on the clock. Things would begin to heat up however as both teams scored 10 points each over the next 3:37 to remain deadlocked at 24-24 with 3:06 on the clock.

King's, however, would begin a decisive surge when Hochstuhl was fouled down low and hit a pair of foul shots and Jenna Palumbo and Kaitlyn Fiorino canned back-to-back three-pointers to give King's a 32-27 advantage with 1:40 left.  Fiorino and Palumbo would then score one more basket each as King's closed out the half with a 12-3 run to take a 36-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Lady Monarchs used a quick 9-9 spurt to build a 45-32 lead when Fiorino converted a pair of charity tossed with 15:02 left in the contest.  The Aggies would later cut the lead to 49-42 on a Moira Donoghue basket with 10:11 remaining, but a Hochstuhl basket, and a three-pointer from Palumbo stretched the lead back to 54-42 with 9:39 left.  The Aggies would draw no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Hochstuhl was 7-of-13 from the field while six of her 14 boards came on the offensive end.  She also distributed three assists.  Fiorinio netted 18 points while Palumbo followed with 14 points and four three-pointers, moving into second place in King's single-season history with 55 treys on the year.  She needs four to surpass the Lady Monarch record of 58 set in 2003-04 by Jennie Orelli.

Sarah Darling enjoyed a solid game with eight points and eight rebounds while Lauren Kendra chipped in with four points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Shannon O'Neill led the Aggies with  15 points while Dena Santoro and Rachel Joyce chipped in with 15 and 12 points respectively.

King's returns to action Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Williamsport against Lycoming College.
