KING'S WOMEN DOWN WILKES, 64-56
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's women's basketball team
rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to post a 64-56 win over
host Wilkes University in the MAC Freedom Conference opener for both
teams Wednesday in the Marts Center.
In posting its 17th consecutive win over Wilkes, King's improved to 3-2
overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Colonels slipped to 1-3 and
0-1.
Trailing 42-34 with 10:16 remaining, King's was ignited by the play of
Andrea Hochstuhl who scored eight straight points to ignite a 14-0
King's run as the Lady Monarchs took a 48-42 lead with 6:38 remaining.
Wilkes would tie the score at 52-52 with 1:36 left but a huge
three-pointer from freshman Kaitlyn Fiorino with 1:03 remaining gave
King's the lead for good at 55-52. The Lady Monarchs closed out the game
by hitting 8-of-8 foul shots, four from Fiorinio, and two each from
Jenna Palumbo and Beth Jordan.
Jordan led King's with game-highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds while
Fiorino followed with 14 points. Hochstuhl added 10 points and five
boards while Kasey Oczkowski came off the bench to contribute seven
points. Lauren Kendra chipped in with five points, six rebounds, four
steals, and three assists.
King's posted a 45-34 rebounding advantage in the game.
Wilkes was led by Andrea Kacprowicz with 15 points while Rena Bolin with
14 points, five assists, and five steals.
King's will next travel to Doylestown on Saturday to face Delaware
Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
