KING'S WOMEN DOWN E-TOWN TO WIN FIRST GAME OF SEASON

ARLINGTON, VA --  Senior forward Beth Jordan scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds as the King's College women's basketball team handed rookie year head coach Brian Donoghue his first career win as the Lady Monarchs posted a 61-48 victory over Elizabethtown College at the Marymount Tip-Off Classic Sunday in Arlington, Va.

With the win, King's improved to 1-2 on the year while Elizabethtown slipped to 0-3.

King's built a 29-23 halftime lead but the Blue Jays fought back to take a 33-31 lead on a pair of foul shots by Erin Walton with 16:18 left in the contest.

The Lady Monarchs, however, would counter with a 11-0 run, ignited by a pair of three-pointers from Kaitlyn Fiorino, two baskets from Jordan, and a traditional three-point play from Lauren Kendra as King's took a 42-33 lead with 13:43 remaining.

Elizabethtown would cut the lead to 44-39 on a bucket by Walton with 11:33 on the clock, but King's would again answer. A pair of foul shots by Andrea Hochstuhl and a basket from Jenna Palumbo pushed the lead to 48-39. Jordan would score off a steal by Kendra while Palumbo followed with another three-pointer as King's lead grew to 53-39. Jordan added  a lay-up to cap another 11-0 run as King's built a 55-39 advantage with 6:18 remaining.

The Blue Jays would draw no closer than 11 points during the remainder of the contest.

Jordan, who was 6-of-10 from the field and added four assists, was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in three games.  Fiorino followed with 12 points, including a 4-for-8 showing from three-point range. Hochstuhl finished with nine points and 11 rebounds while Palumbo added nine points. Kendra contributed four points, and six assists while Colette Makowiec chipped in with five points.

King's will be idle until Sunday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face Cabrini College at 2:00 p.m. in Radnor.
