KING'S WOMEN FALL TO WESLEYAN 59-52 AT MARYMOUNT TOURNEY

ARLINGTON, VA -- The King's College women's basketball team was unable to make a two-point half-time lead as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 59-52 decision to Wesleyan University in the second round of the Marymount University Tip-Off Classic Saturday in Arlington, Va.

With the loss, King's fell to 0-2 on the year while Wesleyan, a 2005 NCAA Sweet 16 participant, improved to 1-1.

King's took a 28-27 lead into the half-time break. But Wesleyan came out of the locker room to go on a 13-3 run to take a 40-31 lead on a three-pointer by Ali Founrey with 13:32 remaining in the contest. With the Cardinals maintaining a 48-40 lead with 5:16 left on the clock, King's would go on a 6-0 spurt thanks to a five consecutive points from Lauren Kendra to bring the lady Monarchs within 48-46 with 3:10 left.

Hannah Stubbs would answer with a bucket for Wesleyan, but Kendra countered with a lay-up to register her eighth straight point and bring King's to within 50-48 with 1:40 remaining. Ashley Mastrangelo would then score and was fouled on the play, converting the free throw to give the Cardinals a 53-48 advantage with 1:28 on the clock. After a King's miss, Stubbs was fouled and converted both charity tosses to extend the Cardinal lead to 55-48 with 1:06 left.

After another King's miss, the Lady Monarchs were forced to foul and Stubbs made the first of two attempts to push the score to 56-48 with 0:42 remaining. After Beth Jordan scored to bring King's to within 56-50 with 0:30 left, Mastrangelo was fouled and converted both free throws to put the game away.

Jordan led King's with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Kaitlyn Fiorino followed with 10 points. Kendra added nine points, nine rebounds, and four assists while Andrea Hochstuhl chipped in with four points and seven rebounds.

King's held a 53-37 rebounding advantage but the Lady Monarchs shot just 25.5 (14-55) percent from the field in the contest.

Wesleyan was paced by Stubbs with 17 points while Mastrangelo added 14 points.

King's will wrap up play at the Marymount Tip-Off Classic Sunday at 8:30 a.m. against either Trinity (TX) University or Elizabethtown College.
