LADY MONARCHS FALL TO 2ND RANKED SCRANTON
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team dug itself
into a huge first half hole and would never recover as the Lady Monarchs
dropped a 70-51 decision to the University of Scranton in the semi-final
round of the Freedom Conference plays Wednesday in the John Long Center.
Scranton, ranked second nationally in Division III, improved to 25-1 in
winning its 23rd consecutive game. King's saw its season come to
an end at 13-13.
In the first half the Lady Monarchs struggled mightily on the offensive
end, committing 20 turnovers in the opening stanza as Scranton built a
41-22 lead at the break.
The advantage proved to bee far too large to overcome against a talented
Lady Royal squad. King's, however, never quit and managed equal
Scranton's 29 second half points.
Taryn Mellody led Scranton with 25 points, 16 coming in the first half.
Allison Matt and Kelly Lewandowski netted 10 points each.

points while Casey Heitman and Colette Makowiec scored seven each. Beth

of her stellar King's career.
