LADY MONARCH CAGERS FALL TO SCRANTON, 68-44
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team made just
three first-half baskets as the second-ranked University of Scranton
posted a 68-44 victory Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, Scranton improved to 19-1 with its 17th straight win while
also upping its Freedom Conference mark to 9-0. King's fell to 9-11 and
4-5 while dropping its third straight home conference game.
Scranton took a 44-11 lead at the break as the Lady Monarchs made just
12.5 (3-of-24) percent of its shots in the opening stanza and finished
the game making just 24.0 (12-50) from the field. The Lady Royals also
dominated the boards, outrebounding King's 50-32 including 20 on the
offensive glass.
Scranton was led by Taryn Mellody with 17 points while Casey Thran and
Allison Matt added 14 and 12 respectively.
King's failed to place a single player in double figures as Jenna
Palumbo led the way with nine points, followed by Andrea Hochstuhl and
Kaitlyn Fiorino with eight each. King's top scorer and rebounder Beth
Jordan was held to seven points and six boards, while dishing out four
assists.
King's travels to Center Valley on Saturday to face DeSales University
at 1:00 p.m.
