LADY MONARCHS FALTER LATE IN 60-44 LOSS TO DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team scored just one point and went without a field goal over the final 5:40 of the game as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 60-44 decision to visiting Delaware Valley College Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium

With the win, Delaware Valley improved to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in Freedom Conference play. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 9-10 and 4-4. The lost was especially bad for the Lady Monarchs as it marked the second straight home conference defeat for King's.

King's would tie the game at 43-43 on a bucket by Brittany Atzert with 5:40 on the clock, but the Lady Monarchs would go scoreless over the next 5:22 of the contest as the Aggies strung together a 15-0 run to take a 58-43 lead with 0:36 left. The Lady Monarchs would add its final point of the game when Andrea Hochstuhl made one-of-two foul shots with 0:28 remaining.

Hochstuhl led King's with 15 points and nine rebounds while Beth Jordan added 12 points and 14 rebounds. But King's hurt itself with 24 turnovers and shot poorly from the field the entire game. The Lady Monarchs shot just 29.6 (8-27) from the floor in the first half and 28.6 (10-35) in the second stanza to post a combined 29.0 (18-62 percent for the game. King's also made just 1-of-13 three-pointers for the game.

Delaware Valley was led by Moira Donohue with 17 points while Rachel Joyce followed with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Shannon O'Neill netted 14 points while Brooke Dittmar chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

King's returns to action Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs host the University of Scranton at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
