LADY MONARCHS POST IMPORTANT 75-61 WIN OVER DESALES
WILKES-BARRE -- Beth Jordan and Andrea
Hochstuhl each registered a double-double as the King's College women's
basketball team posted an important 75-61 victory over DeSales
University in a Freedom Conference matchup Saturday in Scandlon
Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in Freedom
Conference play. DeSales slipped to 7-6 and 2-2.
King's opened the game up strong and established its inside game with
both Jordan and Hochstuhl, building a quick 13-4 lead with 17:03 left
thanks to six points from Jordan and five by Hochstuhl.
DeSales cut the lead to 20-17 with with 11:09 remaining when Kirby Lutz
made one-of-two foul shots. King's, however, would close out the
half with a 22-10 run, capped by a three-pointer from casey Heitman at
the buzzer.
In the second half King's would continue to control the game, increasing
the lead to 61-35 with 12:-8 left following a basket from Lauren Kendra
and a pair of foul shots by Brittany Atzert. King's would maintain a 20+
points lead until Krista Gerlach of DeSales converted a pair of foul
shots with 2:53 left in the contest.
Jordan was outstanding with game-highs of 17 points, 14 rebounds, and
eight assists. Hochstuhl registered her second double-double of the week
with 15 points and 10 boards. Kaitlyn Fiorino netted 12 points while
Kendra cashed in 11 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and five
assists.
DeSales was paced by LeighAnn Burke with 15 points while Lutz and Kim
Rarick netted nine points each.
King's will return to conference action with another crucial game
Wednesday at the University of Scranton. The women tip off at 6:00 p.m.
with the men to follow at 8:00 p.m.
