SALISBURY DOWNS POTSDAM IN CONSOLATION GAME

WILKES-BARRE --  Christen Barney netted 26 points and Kiera Watkins added 17 points, including the 1,000th of her career as Salisbury downed Potsdam 86-72 in the consolation game of the Lady Monarch Classic Saturday at King's College.

Salisbury improved to 8-2 while Potsdam slipped to 1-9.

With the game tied at 6-6 with 17:14 left in first half Potsdam went on 10-4 run took a 16-10 lead on a traditional three-point play by Ashley Schaad with 12:45 left in first half, her fifth point in a the spurt.

Salisbury answered with an 7-0 run and took a 17-16 lead on a Watkins basket at 10:16. After Potsdam regained the lead at 18-17 on a Megan Davis bucket with 10:06 left, Salisbury went on a 18-4 run capped by a bucket from Kat Kordal and two foul shots from Barney to push the score to 36-20 with 3:523 left in the half.

Salisbury went into the half with a 41-23 lead on a steal and lay-up at the buzzer by Lindsay Martin.

Jessica Mills and Kordal added 12 points each while Watkins hauled down 11 rebounds.

Kathleen Davis had 14 points for Potsdam while Katie Buzzell followed with 13. Amy Rich chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
