KING'S TO FACE POTSDAM IN TOURNEY OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- Host King's College placed
three players in double figures en route to a 70-43 victory over Potsdam
State University the opening round of the Lady Monarch Classic Friday in
Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 6-5 on the year while Potsdam fell to
1-8
King's took a a 28-17 lead into the halftime break thanks to the hot
shooting of sophomore guard Jenna Palumbo who netted 13 of her co-team
high 15 points in the opening stanza.
In the second half, the Lady Monarchs outscored Potsdam 26-11 over the
first 12:36 to build a 54-28 lead with 7:24 left on a three-pointer from
Kaitlyn Fiorino. King's built its biggest lead of the game - 28
points - on a three-pointer from Andrea Carroll with 5:04 remaining.
The Lady Monarchs were also aided by Andrea Hochstuhl with 15 points and
eight rebounds while Beth Jordan contributed 14 points and nine boards.
Brittany Atzert chipped in with six points and six rebounds.
Potsdam was paced by Maureen Curley with 11 points and four steals.
Amy Rich added nine points and eight boards while Roberta Gibson chipped
in with six points and three rebounds.
King's advances to Saturday's 3:00 p.m. title game where it will
face Messiah College,
the 11th ranked team nationally in Division III, in the title game.
Messiah defeated Salisbury 87-72 in the other first round game.
The King's College student radio station WRKC, 88.5 FM will web cast the
championship game between Messiah and the Lady Monarchs at 3:00 p.m.
