KING'S WOMEN DOWN CABRINI 63-47 IN HOME DEBUT
WILKES-BARRE -- Senior center Kristin Yeasted
scored a game-high 17 points and hauled in seven rebounds in just 15
minutes of action to lead the King's College women's basketball team to a
63-47 victory in the Lady Monarchs' home debut Sunday in Scandlon
Gymnasium.
With the victory, King's improved to 4-0 on the year, while Cabrini fell
to 0-1 after its first game of the season.
King's took command from the start as the Lady Monarchs built a 17-7
lead with 11:00 left in the first half. King's closed out the half
with a 16-8 run to take a 33-15 advantage into the halftime break. Senior
Katie Lala netted eight of her 10 points in the first half while Yeasted
scored seven to pace King's.
In the second half, the Lady Monarchs opened with a 16-6 run thanks to
nine consecutive points by Yeasted as the King's lead swelled to 49-21
with 11:59 remaining. The spurt allowed King's coach Bryan Whitten to
utilize all 16 players on the roster as 12 different Lady Monarchs reached
the scoring column.
Cindy Baral added eight points for King's while Colette Makoweic netted
five. King's leading scorer Beth Jordan was held to just two points but
dished out six assists with five rebounds. Freshman guard Lauren Kendra
had a team-high four steals as King's forced 33 Cabrini turnovers.
The Cavaliers were led by Erin Shemar with 10 points while Sharae
Middlebrook added nine.
King's will next host cross town rival Wilkes in the Freedom Conference
opener for both teams Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
