KING'S WOMEN FALL TO DESALES IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS

WILKES-BARRE -- The host King's College women's basketball team shot just 29.5 percent from the field as the second-seeded Lady Monarchs fell to third-seed DeSales University 47-41 in the semi-finals of the Freedom Conference Tournament Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium>

With the win, DeSales (20-6) advances to the conference title game Saturday against the top-seeded University of Scranton, a 74-49 winner over FDU-Florham in the other semi-final game.

King's (22-4) shot just 32.0 (9-25) from the field in the first half, then shot just 27.8 (10-36) in the second stanza.

DeSales took a 24-19 halftime lead and would extend the advantage to 32-19 with 15:15 left in the contest. The Lady Monarchs would not find the scoreboard in the second half until Lauren Davison's bucket with 13:57 on the clock.

Trailing 38-27 with 6:09 left, King's would attempt to rally and came to within 43-41 on a Jenna Palumbo three-pointer with 0:19 remaining. But Holly Leibl would score for the Bulldogs with 0:13 left to push the score to 45-41. After a King's miss, Jen Netwall was fouled and sank both charity tosses to seal the win.

Netwall led DeSales with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Alyssa Antolick followed with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while Leibl netted 11 points with eight boards.

King's was led by Beth Jordan with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  DeSales held King's leading scorer Kristin Yeasted to nine points and nine rebounds.  Yeasted netted 33 points against the Bulldogs in the last meeting between the teams on February 5.

Palumbo added eight points but no other Lady Monarch scored more than three points. Just six King's players reached the scoring column.

King's must now await word on a possible NCAA at-large bid which will be announced Sunday at 9:00 p.m.
