KING'S HOSTS DREW IN BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER
WILKES-BARRE-- Beth Jordan scored 17 points
and added a career-high 15 rebounds to lead a depleted King's College women's basketball
team to a 58-43 victory over visiting Drew University Saturday in Scandlon
Gym.
King's improved to 21-2 overall and 11-1 in Freedom Conference play while
Drew fell to 12-11.
King's, which was playing the game without starting guard Vienna Spitler
and sixth-man Cindy Baral, who were both ill, overcame a slow start to
secure the victory.
The Lady Monarchs managed just a 27-24 lead at the half on the strength of
10 points by Jordan. King's would slowly extend the lead and took a
42-32 lead on a Jordan basket with 12:04 left. After Drew curt the
lead to 42-35, King's used a pair of foul shots from Kristin Yeasted, and
back-to-back three-pointers from Jenna Palumbo to build a 50-37 lead with
6:55 remaining.
Jordan added five assists and three steals to lead the Lady MOnarch
cause. Yeasted follwoed with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Palumbo added nine. Lauren Kendra had four points, nine boards, and four
steals.
Melissa Kraft and Jen Welson led Drew with 13 points each
The Lady Monarchs will then travel to the University
of Scranton for a Freedom Conference first-place matchup on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
