KING'S WOMEN POST 58-51 WIN AT DREW

MADISON, NJ  --  The King's College women's basketball team overcame a two-point halftime deficit as the Lady Monarchs posted a 58-51 Freedom Conference victory over host Drew University Monday in Madison, NJ.

With the win, King's improved to 16-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play while Drew slipped to 12-7 and 4-4.

King's trailed 26-24 at the break but took a 29-28 lead with 17:33 remaining on a bucket by Kristin Yeasted.  Drew would answer on a basket by Jennifer Weld with 15:50 left, giving the Rangers a 30-29 lead. 

The Lady Monarchs would respond with a jumper from Vienna Spitler, a bucket by Yeasted, and a basket and two foul shots from Lauren Kendra to give King's a 37-33 lead with 10:12 on the clock. Jenna Palumbo scored on a lay-up, followed by a basket from Beth Jordan to push the King's advantage to 43-33 with 8:26 remaining.  yeasted then canned two foul shots before Lauren Bonanni drained a three-pointer to cap a 15-3 run and give the Lady Monarchs a 48-33 with 7:11 left in the contest.

Drew would attempt to rally and closed to within 52-48 on a three-pointer from Melissa Kraft with 2:55 remaining, but Jordan score back-to-back baskets while Spiter and Kendra made two foul shots each in the final 0:22 to seal the win.

Yeasted led King's with 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting with five rebounds while Jordan followed with 12 points and seven boards. Kendra added nine points, six rebound, and five assists while Spitler netted six points.  Palumbo and Bonanni chipped in with five points each for the Lady Monarchs.

Kraft led Drew with 16 points while Weldon and Sarah Marquez followed with 11 points each.

King's will next travel to face cross-town rival Wilkes Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
