KING'S WOMEN DEFEAT DELAWARE VALLEY, 73-67
WILKES-BARRE -- Beth Joprdan netted a team-high
20 points while Kristin Yeasted added 16 points and 12 rebounds to pace
the King's College women's basketball team to a 73-67 Freedom Conference
victory over Delaware Valley College Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 15-2 overall and 6-1 in conference games,
while Delaware Valley slipped to 8-8 and 1-6.
King's would dominate the first 15 minutes of the opening half as the Lady
Monarchs built a 34-18 lead, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from
Jenna Palumbo with 5:23 remaining.
Delaware Valley, however, would answer as it closed out the half with a
18-6 run to close to within 40-36 at the break.
In the second half, King's again started out strong and opened the final
frame with a 14-6 run to build a 54-42 advantage with 14:22 left on a pair
of foul shots from Yeasted and a bucket from Cindy Baral. The Aggies
would again answer with a 17-6 run and cut the lead to 60-59 with 7:18
left on a Rachel Joyce three-pointer.
But the Lady Monarchs would again answer as Lauren Kendra scored
back-to-back baskets, followed by two more consecutive buckets from
Jordan. to extend the lead to 68-63 with 3:03 left. After Bridget
Golden made one of two foul shots for the Aggies, Yeasted was fouled and
converted both shots to up the King's lead to 70-64 with 1:30
remaining.
The Aggies would begin to foul and Lauren Bonanni made 3-of-6 free throws
over the final 0:37 to seal the victory.
Jordan was 8-of-14 from the field and added seven rebounds and four steals
while Yeasted had six of her 12 boards on the offensive end. Vienna
Spitler added 12 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists
while Kendra finished with eight points, five rebounds, five steals, and
four assists. Baral chipped in with six points and five
boards. King's also forced the Aggies into 30 turnovers.
Delaware Valley was paced by Joyce with 20 points and 12 rebounds while
Golden added 14 points and 11 boards. Moira Donohue and Jackie
Hartzell chipped in with 11 points each.
