KING'S WOMEN HOLD OFF DESALES, 65-58

WILKES-BARRE – Beth Jordan and Katie Lala both posted double-doubles as the King’s College women's basketball team posted a 65-58 victory over visiting  DeSales University Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, 16th ranked King's improved to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference.  DeSales, ranked 24th nationally, slipped to 10-3 and 3-1.

King's would dominate the first 14 minutes of the game, building a 31-17 lead with 5:34 remaining thanks to nine points from Vienna Spitler and seven points from Lala.

DeSales, however, would crawl back into the game from the foul line.  The Bulldogs scored seven of their final 11 points of the half from the foul line, including seven straight. King's would score just four points during the stretch as the Bulldogs closed to within 35-28 at the half.

In the second stanza, King's would extend the lead to 42-31 on a pair of foul shots from Kristin Yeasted but the Bulldogs would battle back to close to within 50-47 on a bucket by Kirby Lutz with 10:32 remaining.

King's would then go on a 6-0 spurt to take a 56-47 lead on a Jordan basket but eh Bulldogs would again respond and drew to within 58-55 on a pair of foul shots from Holly Liebl with 3:10 left.

The Lady Monarchs would counter with a pair of foul shots from Jordan and a basket by Spitler to extend the advantage to 62-55 with 1:37 to seal the victory.

Jordan finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists for KIng's.  Lala added 13 points and 10 boards while Spitler netted 14 points with six rebounds.  Yeasted, who played in her first game after suffering an ankle injury January 4, chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

DeSales was paced by Antolick with 15 points while Amanda Kuperavage followed with 14.

King's will next host arch-rival Scranton Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
