KING'S WOMEN WIN OPENER AT DESERT SHOOTOUT

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Jen Wozniak posted team-highs of 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the King's College women's basketball team to a 59-47 victory over LaVerne University on the opening round of the Adidas Division III Desert Shootout Sunday at the McDermott Complex on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

King's took control early and jumped out to an early 44-24 half-time lead as the Lady Monarchs shot 54.1 percent from the field.

The second half proved to be much different as King's scored just 15 points over the final 20 minutes of the game, converting just 11.1 percent of their shots, making just three of 27 field goals in that span.

Tiffini Varrasse added 10 points and five assists while Beth Jordan netted eight points and seven rebounds. Katie Lala contributed eight points and five rebounds while Vienna Spilter chipped in with seven points.

King's, ranked 19th nationally in Division III, will face the winner of the other first round pairing between 18th ranked St. Benedict (6-0) and Allegheny (2-5) Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
