KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO GWYNEDD-MERCY,
62-55
GWYNEDD-VALLEY -- The King's College women's
basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as the
Lady Monarchs dropped a 62-55 verdict to defending Pennsylvania Athletic
Conference champion Gwynedd-Mercy College Thursday in Gwynedd Valley.
King's failed to make a 29-26 halftime advantage
hold up as the Griffins outscored the Lady Monarchs 36-26 over the game's
final 20 minutes. King's made just 9-of-26 shots from the field in the
second half. With the Lady Monarchs ice cold from the field, Gwynedd
went on a 21-10 run to start the second half, building a 57-39 lead before
King's attempted to rally
Beth Jordan led King's with 14 points while Tiffini Varrasse
followed with 11 points, eight assists, and five steals. Jen Wozniak
scored 10 points but netted just two in the second half. As a team, King's
committed 28 turnovers.
Gwynedd-Mercy improved to 5-1 with the win while
King's fell to 5-2. The Lady Monarchs will next compete in the Adidas
Desert Shootout at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Sunday and Monday.
King's will open tournament play against LaVerne University of California.
