KING'S WOMEN DOWN GUILFORD TO FINISH FOURTH AT
MARYMOUNT
ARLINGTON, VA -- The King's College women's
basketball team raced out to a 42-26 halftime lead and never looked back
as the Lady Monarchs posted a 72-57 victory over Guilford College of North
Carolina at the Marymount University Tip-Off Classic in Arlington, Va.
With the win, King's placed fourth in the eight-team, three-day event.
The Lady Monarchs (2-1) scorched the nets in the
first half, connecting on 62.5 (15-24) percent of their shots to build a
comfortable lead and were never challenged in the second stanza. Senior
all-American guard Tiffini Varrasse topped the squad with 16 points and
five assists. Jen Wozniak added 15 points and 12 rebounds to conclude an
outstanding tournament with averages of 22.3 points and 10.0 rebounds,
while shooting 66.7 (24-36) percent from the field over three games. She
was named to the all-tournament team.
Jennie Orelli added 12 points while Beth Jordan
netted nine points and six rebounds for the Lady Monarchs. Katie Lala
contributed seven points and nine rebounds while Cindy Baral added seven
points and seven rebounds. King's outrebounded Guilford 45-33 while
holding the Quakers to a 28.3 (17-60) shooting percentage.
A.J. Robertson led Guilford with 14 points while
Jennifer King added 11.
The Lady Monarchs will return to action Sunday,
November 30 with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Cabrini College in Radnor.
