GETTYSBURG STUNS KING'S WOMEN 62-61 IN MARYMOUNT OPENER

ARLINGTON, VA -- Gettysburg College overcame a 33-26 halftime deficit to rally past the King's College women's basketball team 62-61 in the opening round of the Marymount University Tip-Off Classic Friday on Arlington, Va.

King's, the defending tournament champion and 12th ranked team nationally in two NCAA Division III pre-season polls, made just eight of 14 shots in the second half as Gettysburg outscored the Lady Monarchs 36-28 over the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Jen Wozniak led King's with 25 points and nine rebounds and made 9-of-12 shots from the field. The rest of the Lady Monarchs squad would make just 10-of-41 shots (24.3 percent) from the floor.

King's also hurt itself by making 23-of-35 foul shots and turning the ball over 21 times compared to 14 for Gettysburg. The Lady Monarchs also went 0-of-13 from three-point range

Katie Lala was the only other Lady Monarch to score in double figures with 10 points. All-American guard Tiffini Varrasse netted just five points for King's.

The Bullets were paced by Dana Bear with 19 points while Jen Bengel added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Kathryn Reilly also scored 13 points.

King's will play the loser of St. Lawrence and Salisbury Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the consolation round of the three-day, eight-team event.
