WASHINGTON 7 JEFFERSON DOWNS KING'S 81-61 IN ECAC SOUTHERN REGION OPENER

WILKES-BARRE -- Shawndra McDonald and Leigh Sulkowski combined for 47 points to lead visiting Washington & Jefferson College to a 81-61 victory over host King's College in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Region Tournament.

Washington and Jefferson improved to 19-8 on the year and advances to the ECAC semi-finals on Saturday. King's ends its season at 19-9.

The Presidents built a 31-22 halftime lead behind 10 points from McDonald and eight from Sulkowski. King's would start the second half with a 15-6 spurt to tie the score at 37-37 on a three-pointer from Jennie Orelli. The Lady Monarchs would take its lone lead of the game at 44-43 on a bucket by Beth Jordan but the Presidents would counter with a three-pointer from Sulkowski to take a 46-44 advantage. King's would then knot the score at 46-46 on a pair of foul shots from Tiffini Varrasse with 11:48 remaining.

From there the Presidents would go on a 21-5 run keyed by 11 points from Sulkowski and 10 points by McDonald to build a 67-51 lead with 5:39 left as W&J would cruise the remainder of the game.

Amanda Stanonik added 12 points while Sheana Malyszka contributed nine points. Lauren Slampak chipped in with four points and nine rebounds for the Presidents.

King's was paced by Beth Jordan with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Kristin Yeasted added 11 points. Senior point-guard Tiffini Varrasse scored seven points and added six assists to break King's career mark with her 447th assist. Senior forwards Jen Wozniak and Jennie Orelli added six points in their final collegiate games.
