KING'S WOMEN CAGERS UPSET AT DREW
WILKES-BARRE -- The host Drew University women's
basketball team overcame a one-point half-time deficit to outscore King's
College 38-25 in the second half as the Rangers posted a 65-53 upset over
the Lady Monarchs Saturday in Madison, NJ.
The loss was huge for King's as it all but
eliminated the Lady Monarchs from one of the top two seeds in the upcoming
MAC Freedom Conference playoffs. King's fell to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in
conference play while Drew improved to 12-8 and 5-6. It also marked the
first time Lady Monarch coach Bryan Whitten has lost to Drew in his
11-year career, snapping a string of 21 consecutive wins over the Rangers.
King's would make just 9-of-28 field goals in the
second half. Kristin Yeasted topped the Lady Monarchs with 11 points but
10 came in the first half. Beth Jordan netted 10 points, six rebounds, and
five assists. Tiffini Varrasse added nine points while Vienna Spitler
chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. King's leading scorer Jen
Wozniak was held to just six points on the day.
Courtney Cunningham led Drew with 21 points while
Lauren Alainao chipped in with 12.
The Lady Monarchs will host arch-rival Scranton
Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
