KING'S WOMEN EARN 14TH STRAIGHT WIN OVER WILKES,
70-51
WILKES-BARRE -- King's guard Tiffini Varasse scored
a season high 20 points as the Lady Monarchs basketball team defeated
Wilkes University 70-51 Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.
The win was King's 14th straight win over the Lady Colonels, enabling the
Lady Monarchs to improve to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in MAC Freedom Conference
play. Wilkes fell to 1-17 and 0-8.
Wilkes kept the score close early due to shooting
44% from the field while King's only made 37% of their shot
attempts. However, the Lady Monarchs held a 32-26 lead as the first
half came to a close.
In the second half, King's opened up a larger lead
as the Lady Monarchs began to pound the ball inside and draw fouls.
King's made 18-of-21 attempts on the day.
Along with Varasse, Jen Wozniak (10 points, six
rebounds), Beth Jordan (12 points, four rebounds), and Kristen Yeasted (10
points, eight rebounds) all keyed to King's win.
Wilkes' Andrea DeMaranville had 16 points and nine
rebounds while Corinne Stewart had 13 points and seven rebounds.
King's will play their next game against DeSales in
a MAC Freedom Conference game at home in Scandlon Gymnasium Saturday at
2:00 p.m.
