KING'S WOMEN PICK UP BIG ROAD WIN AT DEL-VALLEY,
83-72
DOYLESTOWN - Kristen Yeasted scored a game-high 24
points to pace four double-figure scorers as the King's College women's
basketball team posted a crucial 83-72 Freedom Conference road win at
Delaware Valley College Saturday in Doylestown.
With the win, King's swept the season series with
the Aggies while improving to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Delaware Valley, which dropped just its second home game of the season,
fell to 9-8 and 4-4.
In the first half, Jennie Orelli and Katie Lala led
the way for King's with 10 points each while Yeasted netted nine. The Lady
Monarchs built a 40-25 lead on a 5:55 left in the half, but the Aggies
ended on a 19-8 run to claw to within 48-44 at the break.
In the second stanza, King's would maintain the lead
throughout but Delaware Valley would come to within a basket several
times. The Lady Monarchs would never lose their advantage, continually
working the ball inside to Yeasted who would either score a basket or get
to the foul line. The Aggies would come to within 73-72 on a three-point
play by Bridget Golden with 2:10 left but Yeasted would ignite a 10-0
spurt with five straight points to close out the game.
Yeasted came to within one point of equaling a
career high, making 7-of-15 shots from the floor and 10-of-13 from the
charity stripe. Tiffini Varrasse followed with 16 points, seven steals,
six rebounds, and four assists while Orelli and Lala finished with 14 and
12 points respectively.
The balanced King's effort was also important in
helping to overcome an off-shooting night for leading scorer Jen Wozniak
who managed just six points on 2-of-13 shooting. Wozniak, however, came up
big on the boards with a team-high 10 rebounds and four assists.
Golden paced the Aggies with 21 points and 11
rebounds while Jackie Hartzel and Juli McGowan added 13 each.
King's will travel to Delaware to face Wilmington
College Monday at 7:00 p.m. before returning home Wednesday to meet Wilkes
at 6:00 p.m.
