KING'S WOMEN CONTROL OWN DESTINY WITH 76-49 DEFEAT OF LYCOMING

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team moved to within two victories of wrapping up the top seed for the upcoming MAC Freedom Conference playoffs as the 11th ranked Lady Monarchs posted a 76-49 victory over host Lycoming College Saturday in Williamsport.

With the win, King's improved to 19-3 overall and 10-2 in MAC Freedom action. Lycoming fell to 10-12 and 5-7.

King's entered the weekend deadlocked in a three-way tie for first place in the Freedom Conference standings along with the University of Scranton and DeSales University. DeSales however, posted a 73-71 overtime victory over Scranton on Saturday and stand at 10-2 in conference play along with King's. Scranton fell to 9-3 and is in third place.

Jen Wozniak led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kristin Yeasted followed with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Nikki Kingston added 12 points and four steals. Tiffini Varrasse chipped in with eight points, seven assists, and six steals. Katie Lala and Jennie Orelli netted eight points each.

The Lady Monarchs also dominated the boards by a 48-27 margin. Lyndy LeVan led Lycoming with 10 points

Should King's and DeSales win their remaining two games, the Lady Monarchs would be awarded first-place through the MAC tie breaking procedure. With King's and DeSales split their two-game set, and also went 1-1 in their respective series against Scranton. The determining tiebreaker between the two teams would be point differential, with the advantage going to King's. DeSales defeated King's 61-58 on December 7, but King's posted a 52-30 victory on February 1.

The Lady Monarchs will host cross-town rival Wilkes Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in King's regular-season home finale.
