KING'S WOMEN CONTROL OWN DESTINY WITH 76-49 DEFEAT
OF LYCOMING
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's
basketball team moved to within two victories of wrapping up the top seed
for the upcoming MAC Freedom Conference playoffs as the 11th ranked Lady
Monarchs posted a 76-49 victory over host Lycoming College Saturday in
Williamsport.
With the win, King's improved to 19-3 overall and
10-2 in MAC Freedom action. Lycoming fell to 10-12 and 5-7.
King's entered the weekend deadlocked in a three-way
tie for first place in the Freedom Conference standings along with the
University of Scranton and DeSales University. DeSales however, posted a
73-71 overtime victory over Scranton on Saturday and stand at 10-2 in
conference play along with King's. Scranton fell to 9-3 and is in third
place.
Jen Wozniak led the way with 15 points and 11
rebounds. Kristin Yeasted followed with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while
Nikki Kingston added 12 points and four steals. Tiffini Varrasse chipped
in with eight points, seven assists, and six steals. Katie Lala and Jennie
Orelli netted eight points each.
The Lady Monarchs also dominated the boards by a
48-27 margin. Lyndy LeVan led Lycoming with 10 points
Should King's and DeSales win their remaining two
games, the Lady Monarchs would be awarded first-place through the MAC tie
breaking procedure. With King's and DeSales split their two-game set, and
also went 1-1 in their respective series against Scranton. The determining
tiebreaker between the two teams would be point differential, with the
advantage going to King's. DeSales defeated King's 61-58 on December 7,
but King's posted a 52-30 victory on February 1.
The Lady Monarchs will host cross-town rival Wilkes
Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in King's regular-season home finale.
