KING'S WOMEN FALL TO SCRANTON
SCRANTON -- The King's College women's basketball
team failed to distance itself in the MAC Freedom Conference standings
Saturday as the Lady Monarchs fell to arch-rival Scranton 61-55.
King's, which entered the contest with a one-game
lead over Scranton in the conference standings, fell to 17-3 overall and
8-2 in conference play. The Lady Royals moved into a first-place tie with
King's at 8-2 while improving to 19-2 overall.
After a 26-26 half-time tie, the Lady Royals would
build a 46-37 lead with 8:42 left. King's would attempt to rally and
closed to within 53-52 on a bucket by Carissa Ryan with 2:00 left. Tara
Gemmel would score for the Lady Royals with 1:45 left. Following a King's
miss, Kate Pierangeli was fouled and converted a pair of charity tosses to
put the lady Royals on top 57-52 with 1:13 left.
After a Jen Wozniak basket cut the lead to 57054
with 0:55 left, King's forced a Scranton turnover but failed to capitalize
when the immediate made a turnover of their own. Pierangeli was
subsequently fouled and made both attempts to give the Lady Royals a 59-54
lead with 0:16 left.
King's will host Delaware valley Wednesday at 6:00
