KING'S WOMEN'S CAGERS ROUTE FDU, 88-43
WILKES-BARRE -- Junior point-guard Tiffini Varrasse
scored a game-high 17 points in just 20 minutes of action to lead the
King's College women's basketball team to a 88-43 victory over visiting
FDU-Florham in an MAC Freedom Conference matchup Saturday in Scandlon
Gymnasium.
With the win, the 11th ranked Lady Monarchs improved
to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. FDU fell to 6-8 and 1-5.
King's used a stifling defensive effort in the first
half, forcing the Devils to a 26.1 (6-23) shooting performance over the
first 20 minutes as the Lady Monarchs took a 33-19 lead into the break.
King's would continue to dominate the second half and outscored FDU by a
55-24 count as the Devils would convert just 7-of-35 shots in the finals
stanza. The Lady Monarchs would shoot a scorching 56.8 (21-37) over the
final 20 minutes of play.
Varrasse produced an outstanding all-around effort
with four assists, four steals and four rebounds for King's. Senior
forward Jen Wozniak added 15 points in 20 minutes of play while freshman
forward Beth Jordan came off the bench to add 13 points. Cindy Baral
netted nine points while Jennie Orelli and Kristin Yeasted chipped in with
eight each.
FDU was led by Pamela Sagehorn with 10 points while
Kate Pearson added seven.
King's will next travel cross-town to face rival
Wilkes Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
