KING'S WOMEN'S CAGERS HOLD OFF PESKY DREW, 76-73

MADISON, NJ -- Carissa Ryan scored a season-high 18 points and an undermanned King's College women's basketball team held off pesky Drew University in the MAC Freedom Conference opener for both teams Tuesday in Madison, NJ.

Fourth-ranked King's, which was playing without injured all-American guard Nikki Kingston, struggled to a 37-34 half-time lead. With the game tied at 63-63, King's went on an 8-2 spurt with 3:10 remaining to take a 74-67 lead. Drew would cut the lead to 74-70 with 0:08 left on a bucket and foul shot, then added a late three-pointer to narrow the score to 76-73.

Ryan led the way for King's on 6-of-12 shooting while adding five rebounds and three steals. Jen Wozniak added 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Lady Monarchs. Jennie Orelli contributed 12 points while Katie Lala came off the bench to add 10 points. King's shot just 39.7 (27-68) percent for the game.

The Lady Monarchs, who have held opponents to just 38.2 percent shooting and only 53.5 points per-game, struggled defensively as Drew shot 50.9 (29-57) and scored more points against the lady Monarchs than any team this season.
