LADY MONARCH BASKETBALL ROUTES SALISBURY, 84-57
ARLINGTON, VA -- What was anticipated as a hotly
contested battle between a pair of 2002 NCAA national tournament
qualifiers turned into a route as the King's College women's basketball
team blasted Salisbury University 84-57 in the semi-final round of the
eight-team Marymount Tip-Off Classic in Arlington, Va.
King's, which advanced to the NCAA Division III
national Tournament "Elite Eight", raced out to a 42-23
half-time led over the Sea Gulls, who were an NCAA "Sweet 16"
team a year ago.
Jen Wozniak led the way with 21 points on 9-of-13
shooting. Tiffini Varrasse followed with 17 points and five assists. Nikki
Kingston added 13 points and four assists, while April Tanner netted 12
points.
In the finals, King's will face the winner of either
host Marymount University or Geneseo State. A year ago, Marymount defeated
the Lady Monarchs 67-64 in the NCAA "Elite Eight" and advanced
to the Division III "Final Four"
