LADY MONARCH BASKETBALL SQUAD WINS OPENER AT MARYMOUNT TOURNEY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's basketball team opened its season on a positive note as the lady Monarchs routed Gettysburg College 90-56 in the opening round of the Marymount University Tip-Off Classic Friday in Arlington, Va.

Returning MAC Freedom Conference all-stars Jen Wozniak and Nikki Kingston paved the way for the lady Monarchs. Wozniak led all scorers with 16 points, while Kingston added 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. The Lady Monarchs held a 44-33 halt-time lead but outscored the Bullets 26-23 over the final 20 minutes.

Jennie Orellie came off the bench to add 13 points and five rebounds, while point-guard Tiffini Varrasse added 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

King's will face the winner of the Elizabethtown-Salisbury matchup Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the semi-final round of the three day tournament. Salisbury reached the NCAA Division III national tournament "Sweet 16" a year ago.
