LADY MONARCHS FALL TO CARNEGIE-MELON IN BAHAMAS

NASSAU, BAHAMAS -- The King's College women's basketball team struggled offensively, shooting just 30.6 percent for the game as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 59-54 verdict to Carnegie-Melon University in the second round of the Great Goombay Shootout in Nassau, Bahamas.

Trailing 33-29 at the half, King's shooting woes compounded over the final 20 minutes as the Lady Monarchs shot just 26.7 (8-30) from the field. Leading scorer Jen Wozniak was saddled with foul trouble throughout the contest, playing just 27 minutes before fouling out with 11 points. Tiffini Varrasse led King's with 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Carissa Ryan added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lady Monarch all-American Nikki Kingston, who suffered a head injury in the first round and was not expected to play against Carnegie-Melon, did take the floor but labored with a 1-for-11 shooting effort and tallied just six points. King's fell to 8-2 with the loss.

Carnegie-Melon, which improved to 8-2, was led by Michelle Sodini and Carissa Sain with 18 and 16 points respectively, Erin Brady added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
