LADY MONARCHS FALL TO CARNEGIE-MELON IN BAHAMAS
NASSAU, BAHAMAS -- The King's College women's
basketball team struggled offensively, shooting just 30.6 percent for the
game as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 59-54 verdict to Carnegie-Melon
University in the second round of the Great Goombay Shootout in Nassau,
Bahamas.
Trailing 33-29 at the half, King's shooting woes
compounded over the final 20 minutes as the Lady Monarchs shot just 26.7
(8-30) from the field. Leading scorer Jen Wozniak was saddled with foul
trouble throughout the contest, playing just 27 minutes before fouling out
with 11 points. Tiffini Varrasse led King's with 18 points, seven
rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Carissa Ryan added 12 points and
10 rebounds.
Lady Monarch all-American Nikki Kingston, who
suffered a head injury in the first round and was not expected to play
against Carnegie-Melon, did take the floor but labored with a 1-for-11
shooting effort and tallied just six points. King's fell to 8-2 with the
loss.
Carnegie-Melon, which improved to 8-2, was led by
Michelle Sodini and Carissa Sain with 18 and 16 points respectively, Erin
Brady added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
